DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2023 – MORE IS EVERYTHING

The shift from minimalism to maximalism in home design is an interesting evolution in interior design trends. Minimalism emphasized the idea of “less is more” and focused on decluttering and simplifying spaces. On the flip side, maximalism encourages a more vibrant and expressive approach to home decor. Here are some key points to consider about this trend:

Embracing Color and Patterns: Maximalism is all about celebrating color and patterns. Mixing and matching different colors and patterns creates a friendly, eclectic feel to the space. Unlike the neutral color palettes of minimalism, maximalism allows for self-expression and creativity.

Texture and Excess: Maximalist design uses different textures, like soft fabrics and textured wall coverings. The goal is to create a sensory-rich environment where every surface and element invites touch and exploration.

Functional Furnishings: Despite the focus on excess, maximalist design doesn’t mean clutter. Functional and comfortable furnishings are still essential. You should choose pieces that have a function and add to the overall design theme.

Harmony and Mood: Maximalism embraces an abundance of colors and patterns. However, it’s not a free-for-all. Put thought into your design choices. Select those that maintain harmony and set the desired mood. It’s about combining elements in such a way that feels intentional and balanced.

Boho Style: One of my personal favorites! The reference to the “boho” style suggests that there’s a method to the madness. Bohemian design incorporates elements from different cultures for a cohesive look.

Personal Expression: Maximalism encourages homeowners to showcase their personality and style. It’s a more expressive and individualistic approach to design, unlike minimalism.

In summary, the shift to maximalism is a departure from the principles of minimalism, but it doesn’t mean a return to clutter and chaos. It’s about embracing color, pattern, and texture while maintaining thoughtfulness in design. Be creative and design spaces that showcase your personal style.
