MOVING CHECKLIST FOR RELOCATING TO THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST

Congratulations, you have decided to move to Coastal Mississippi. Moving from another state can be costly, but there are many ways to save money when relocating to the Secret Coast.

Saving Money During An Out-Of-State Move

Here are a few tips for those looking to move to Coastal Mississippi from anywhere in the US:

  • Start Planning Early – The earlier you start planning your move, the more time you’ll have to save money.
  • Get Quotes From Multiple Moving Companies – This will help you find the best price for your move.
  • Pack Your Own Belongings – This will save you money on the cost of professional movers.
  • Sell or Donate Items You Don’t Need – Lighten your load and reduce the cost of your move.
  • Move during the Off-Season – Moving rates are usually lower during the off-season, typically from January to March and September to November.
  • Consider a POD or Storage Unit – If you don’t have enough space in your new home for all of your belongings, you may want to consider a POD or storage unit. This can save you money on the cost of moving and storage.
  • Ask for Help From Friends and Family – If you have friends or family willing to help you move, this can save you money on the cost of professional movers.
  • Be Prepared To Negotiate – Don’t be afraid to make a deal with moving companies and other vendors. You may get a lower price if you’re willing to negotiate.

Following these tips can help you save money on your relocation and make the process a little less stressful.

If you are looking for a local mover, one of my favorites is Mighty Men Movers. Not only have Tony and I used them personally, but I have also used them several times to move Acadian Homes’ model homes!

Start Packing!

You can start packing as early as you want. In fact, the earlier you start, the less stressed you will be. First, tackle all the things already packed away, like boxes in a garage, basement, attic, or storage unit and see which items you still want or need. Next, pack up your closets. Moving is the perfect time to sort through everyone’s clothes and donate or sell unused items.

Here are some more essential packing tips to know:

  • Make a List – This will help you track what you need to pack and avoid forgetting anything.
  • Pack By Room – This will make it easier to find what you need when you’re unpacking.
  • Use Space-Saving Techniques – Including rolling your clothes, packing light, and packing cubes.
  • Label Your Boxes – To help you keep track of what’s in each box and where it needs to go.
  • Take Breaks – Packing can be tiring, so be sure to take breaks when you need them.
  • Don’t Forget the Essentials – Include things like toiletries, medications, and important documents.
  • Be Prepared for the Unexpected – This includes things like lost luggage or delayed flights.

If you can take boxes with you, designate one box to hold the items you’ll need on the first day, such as bath towels, toilet paper, paper towels, plates and plastic utensils. Don’t forget bed sheets, hand and dish soap, and any other miscellaneous items you may need as you transition from one home to another. You may also want to keep basic pots, pans, mugs, silverware, and dishes.
